About me

Hello and welcome, I’m Ana Uzelac.

I am an artist, born in Serbia, raised in Zimbabwe, living in between Paris and Belgrade. I mostly paint and draw.

Growing up in different environments, I felt a strong need to find a unifying connection for the stories, fables and personal impressions that captivated me. With time, I realised that colour became this universal language for me.

I began painting as a child in Zimbabwe, later moving to Paris and to New York to study Fine Arts. After graduating, I took a job allowing me to travel to many countries on different continents for several years.

Pulling from vivid impressions of past experiences and places travelled, I started painting dreamlike stories where shapes set the narration and the colours serve to convey the mood and thought process. Sometimes there is a duality between the two, a more multi-layered approach that requires pause to contemplate the content, as with the works in oil. Sometimes though, as in the silk paintings, all comes together on the first layer, an instant spark of pure visual delight.

If you find my colours playful, it is the African soul in me, and as for the rest, it’s the impressions I picked up along my way.
